Mads Ostberg will compete at this year’s Rally Sweden for Citroen’s World Rally Championship team at Rally Sweden in February.
The announcement was made at Autosport International in Birmingham’s NEC, where the 2018 World Rally Championship was officially launched on Thursday morning.
Speaking live on the main stage, Ostberg said “It’s a small surprise to me as well. I’m really happy and honoured to be part of the team for Rally Sweden.”
The Swedish round of the WRC is based very close to Ostberg’s native Norway – which it even crosses into – and has been one of Ostberg’s best-loved rallies on the calendar for some time.
Since making his WRC debut on Swedish snow back in 2006, Ostberg has been ever-present since meaning that the 2018 edition will be his 13th time taking on Rally Sweden.
“It’s one of my favourite events and one I’ve been on the podium at many, many times so I’ll try to achieve the same thing again”
Should the Norwegian add to his current tally of 5 podiums in Sweden, he may find himself in a C3 again by the end of the season.
“I know this team is a great team, I have worked with them in the past and I know what they stand for,” said Ostberg, who confirmed that a full-time return to the team he represented in 2014 and 2015 is his target.
His Sweden appearance will be in a 3rd C3 WRC, meaning that the team’s main 2 drivers, Kris Meeke and Craig Breen, will also be competing alongside Ostberg.
Having spent 2017 with a privately run Ford Fiesta WRC, Ostberg’s plans for the rest of this years are currently unknown.
