Joel Eriksson gets chance to drive FE car in Marrakesh

2017 Formula 3 European Championship runner-up Joel Eriksson will get a chance to drive for DS Virgin Racing at Formula E’s rookie test in Marrakesh.

The Swede was only bested in the junior championship by Lando Norris, picking up seven wins last season. He has recently joined BMW in DTM for next season.

He will drive the car that Sam Bird used to win in Hong Kong last month to kick off the 2017/18 season.

“Formula E has a wealth of very talented drivers so it’s great to be experiencing this first hand and getting my first taste of electric racing,” said Eriksson.

“DS Virgin Racing are a proven race-winning team so I’m looking forward to getting behind the wheel.”

He joins F3 rival Maximilian Gunther, who finished five points behind him in third, at the rookie test. Gunther will be with Dragon Racing who has recently parted ways with Neel Jani after just one race weekend.

Former DS Virgin Racing driver in 2016/17 Jose Maria Lopez is thought to be the one to replace Jani at Dragon for the Marrakesh ePrix on January 13.
