After months of flip-flopping, Formula E has finally decided to alter its qualifying lottery system ahead of its fourth season which begins this weekend in Hong Kong.
Many teams and drivers expressed their discontent with the previous system which randomly decided the qualifying groups. On occasions, those in one particular group gained a significant advantage over those in another due to variable conditions.
Under the news rules, the qualifying groups will be decided by championship order.
This will make it more difficult for drivers to gain a large advantage over their rivals.
Drivers 1st to 5th in the championship will be in Group A , 6th-10th in Group B and so on.
There will be a lottery to determine the order of these groups.

In addition, Formula E’s inaugural Sao Paulo ePrix has been postponed to 2019, with a replacement round for the 2017/18 expected to be announced next week.
The race was delayed due to the city of Sao Paulo’s selling of the area to a private company taking longer than initially expected.
