Eriksson on pole for Red Bull Ring’s races two and three

Motopark’s Joel Eriksson topped the second European Formula 3 qualifying at the Red Bull Ring to take a pair of poles for Sunday’s races.

The reigning rookie champion was the first man to drop below the 1m24s mark and set a series of fastest laps to solidify his place at the top of the order as others improved. He eventually ended the session with a time of 1m23.431s, just three-thousandths of a second faster then Lando Norris.

Norris will start on the front row of the grid for both races.

Nikita Mazepin claimed third for race two, knocking race one winner Callum Ilott to fourth with his final lap of the session. The pair swap positions for the race three grid, with Ilott’s second fastest time just 0.025s faster than Mazepin’s.

Jehan Daruvala and Jake Hughes occupy the third row of race two’s grid, ahead of Ralf Aron and Ferdinand Habsburg.

Championship contender Maximilian Gunther could only manage ninth fastest. The Prema Powerteam driver struggled to put a lap together in the early part of the session. He later jumped up to fourth, only for a flurry of fast laps from others knocking him down the order. His second fastest time was enough to put him sixth on the race three grid, behind Aron.

Guanyu Zhou rounded out the top 10 for race two.
