Ilott tops Red Bull Ring practice

Former Red Bull Junior Callum Ilott topped free practice at the Red Bull Ring, with early pacesetters Lando Norris and David Beckmann second and third fastest.

Norris topped the first Free Practice session, heading Van Amersfoot Racing’s Joey Mawson by over a third of a second. Norris’s Carlin team-mate Ferdinand Habsburg was third, with Ralf Aron and Jehan Daruvala completing the top five.

The newest of the Carlin drivers, Devlin DeFrancesco, was 16th fastest in his maiden practice session.

Although he was frequently at the top of the timesheets, Norris failed to better his his session-topping time in Free Practice Two, and thus Ilott’s 1m23.423s stood as the fastest overall time of the two sessions.

Mawson was fourth fastest in the second session, with championship contenders Maximilian Gunther and Joel Eriksson rounding out the top six.

DeFrancesco was 17th, with HitechGP’s Jake Hughes 20th and last after failing to set a time.
