Piquet joins Jaguar Racing driver line up

Nelson Piquet Jnr will join Mitch Evans at Jaguar for the 2017-18 Formula E season.

The season one FE champion replaces Adam Carrol as Jaguar aims to take regular points in its second season in the championship.

Jaguar joined the FE grid last year, taking five points finishes and a fastest lap in its debut season.

“We are hugely excited to have Nelson on board for season four,” said team director James Barclay. “Mitch was one of the outstanding rookies of the season with some great qualifying and race performances.

“With our new driver line-up we are aiming to be a strong challenger on the grid, regularly competing for points. We have taken a lot of learnings from season three and the team has been working extremely hard throughout the off-season, focusing on the design and development of hte new Jaguar I-TYPE 2.”

Piquet joins Jaguar after three years with NextEV. He took the title with the Chinese squad in 2015, but the team has struggled over the past two seasons.

The 32-year-old finished 11th in the drivers; championship last year with a best finish of fourth at Monaco.

Evans will continue with Jaguar in his second year in the series, as will reserve driver Ho-Pin Tung.
