Massa leads Williams one-two in rain-affected FP3 at Monza

Felipe Massa topped Saturday morning’s FP3 session ahead of team-mate Lance Stroll in a shortened final practice session ahead of qualifying for Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix.

The one-hour long session was on hold for 44 minutes due to heavy rain lashing the circuit, FIA race director Charlie Whiting did continually take to the track with the safety car driven by Bernd Maylander in order to inspect conditions.

The drivers were allowed to take to the track for the final quarter of the session as the rain eased.

Initially Carlos Sainz headed the timesheets in his Toro Rosso ahead of his team-mate Daniil Kvyat, Nico Hulkenberg swiftly came through to spoil their day as he marginally beat Sainz to go fastest.

Championship leader Sebastian Vettel did look to be heading towards the summit of the session but aborted his final lap as the chequered flag fell on the session.

Only seven drivers recorded laps throughout the session as the wet tyre could potentially be used throughout the upcoming qualifying session.
