Cal Crutchlow storms to Fp2 lead at Silverstone

Cal Crutchlow dominated the second free practice session at Silverstone, ending Friday on top.

The Briton’s final time of 2’00.897 was enough to put him top and put Crutchlow very close to Marc Marquez’s record pole lap set in 2015.

Crutchlow ended Friday ahead of Valentino Rossi, who was second. Maverick Vinales ended the session third, with Aleix Espargaro putting in a great ride to finish in fourth place.

Marc Marquez’s session was marred with two crashes. His first was early on at Becketts, with his second being at Village corner. The three-time world champion was able to recover, taking fifth place.

Jorge Lorenzo was sixth, with Pol Espargaro coming in seventh, a good performance for the KTM machine. Johann Zarco was eighth, with Andrea Dovizioso finishing ninth. Scott Redding ended up in tenth.

The Suzuki pairing of Andrea Iannone and Alex Rins finished in eleventh and twelfth place respectively. Alvaro Bautista finished in thirteenth.

The MotoGP riders will return on Saturday for the final free practice sessions and qualifying.
