The Marc VDS team launched an appeal for information on Wednesday morning after Tito Rabat’s 2014 Moto2 title-winning bike was stolen.
The theft took place at around 2am on Wednesday morning at the team’s base in Gosselies, Belgium.
The team confirmed via social media that four suspects broke into the main reception area of its base, with the 2014 Kalex once belonging to Rabat the only thing taken.
Rabat, who joined the Marc VDS team for the 2014 season, battled hard with team-mate Mika Kallio for that year’s title and took the stolen bike in question to a total of seven wins to secure the team’s first championship by 57 points.
Rabat remained with the team in Moto2 for one more season, in which he lost his title to Johann Zarco, before stepping up to MotoGP with the Belgian outfit on a Honda in 2016.
Marc VDS has identified the bike as being in the team’s original livery used in 2014, with the machine carrying Rabat’s number of 53.
The team has urged anyone who is approached by someone selling the bike, or who knows any information relating to the theft, to call +32 (0)71 35 69 32.
