BSB star Dixon to make grand prix debut at Silverstone

British Superbike race winner Jake Dixon will make his grand prix debut at the British Grand Prix as the replacement for the injured Marcel Schrotter at Intact GP in the Moto2 class.

Schrotter – currently 14th in the championship – has been absent since practice for the Czech Grand Prix due to a broken scaphoid he sustained while racing flat track in Australia during the summer break.

The German underwent surgery on the Monday following the Brno race and was reluctantly forced to sit out the Austrian Grand Prix just a few days later.

He was replaced by 2015 Moto3 world champion Danny Kent, though the Briton had to pull out of his second Moto2 wildcard appearance of 2017 after suffering whiplash in a tangle with Alex Marquez during a wet Friday practice.

With neither fit enough to contest the British Grand Prix next weekend, Intact GP has called on Dixon – whose father Darren contested two 500cc grands prix in the 1990s – to fill in.

Dixon is in the midst of a highly successful maiden full-time campaign in BSB with Lee Hardy Racing aboard an RAF-backed Kawasaki ZX-10RR.

The British rider stunned at the Knockhill round in June when he stormed to his first victory in the series in the opening race, repeating the feat a few hours later in the second outing.

He also wildcarded at the UK round of the World Superbike Championship in May, finishing an impressive ninth in the second race on a BSB-spec Kawasaki.

Dixon will carry out his BSB duties this weekend at Cadwell Park, where he will be hoping to further add to his 2017 podium tally after taking to the rostrum in both races at the previous round at Thruxton, before heading to Silverstone for his grand prix debut.
