Mercedes Formula 1 junior George Russell has set a new record practice lap time to go fastest in the first session of the GP3 round at the Hungaroring.
Championship leader Russell set a time of 1m32.255s at the chequered flag to lead Raoul Hyman by 0.085s.
This beats the previous best set by Aaro Vainio, a 1m32.811s, in the same stage of the weekend in 2013.
Honda protege Nirei Fukuzumi began his work from rebounding from a non-scoring round in Britain by finishing third.
Red Bull-backed Niko Kari was fourth ahead of Haas development driver Arjun Maini.
Renault academy racer Jack Aitken was sixth above Kevin Joerg and Leonardo Pulcini.
Sauber’s Tatiana Calderon led DAMS team-mate Bruno Baptista in rounding out the top-10.
The result is their best practice performances of 2017 and the first time two DAMS have placed in the 10 fastest times.
Russell’s nearest challenger, Anthoine Hubert, who is 35 points adrift in the title battle, was 12th quickest.
DAMS’ other driver, Matthieu Vaxiviere, taking part in his first GP3 session of any kind, finished 15th.
