Formula Renault 3.5’s 2015 runner-up Matthieu Vaxiviere is set to make his GP3 debut at Hungary after being noted as Santino Ferrucci’s replacement at DAMS.
There has been no official announcement from the team, driver or series at the time of writing, but the Frenchman is in the ‘Teams and Drivers’ section of the GP3 website alongside other racers Bruno Baptista and Tatiana Calderon.
Ferrucci left a hole in its line-up after moving up to Formula 2 with Trident.
Vaxiviere is a suitable candidate for the role as he has experience of the Hungaroring, racing six times there in three seasons of the 3.5 series.
He claimed a best result of second in the final event of 2015 and never failed to finish in the points at the circuit.
This move is a return to single-seaters for the 22-year-old after racing in the World Endurance Championship four times in 2017 in the LMP2 class for TDS Racing alongside Emmanuel Collard and Francois Perrodo.
It is the first time that DAMS will race with four drivers in a season of any category since 2005.
Then Alx Danielsson, Raffaele Giammaria, Alex Lloyd, Formula 1 race winner Pastor Maldonado, Ferdinando Monfardini and Formula E race winner Nico Prost all raced in the 3.5 series.
