Vettel left wanting more despite front row start in Austria

Sebastian Vettel was left wanting more despite qualifying on the front row for the Austrian Grand Prix alongside Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas.

Having topped third practice on Saturday morning after title rival Lewis Hamilton ran into issues with his brakes at the end of the session, Vettel looked set to be in the running for pole position.

“In the second run I was hoping to jump Bottas and I think I could have done better, but in the end, I am pretty happy with my lap; the car is very good,” Vettel said. “Mercedes is always very quick in qualifying, but today we were close. I think it should be fine tomorrow.”

Wet weather looks to come into play for Sunday’s race around the Red Bull Ring, however, Vettel does not seem to be fazed by this and is only planning on looking forward.

Title rival Hamilton will be starting the race from eighth place after taking a five-place grid drop for changing a gearbox before it’s allotted six races was up.

Team-mate Kimi Raikkonen will line-up third on the grid, the Finn could play a supporting role for Vettel to hold back Hamilton while Vettel chases after Bottas.

“It will be a long race and many things can happen,” Vettel added.

“The most important thing is that the car was good in qualifying, we will try to do our race and look forward. For sure it will be tough, but let’s see what we can do”
