Fernando Alonso’s manager Flavio Briatore insists his client could make a sensational return to Ferrari for the 2018 season.
Alonso left the Scuderia in 2014 after failing to claim an elusive third world title across five years with the team.
The Spaniard, though, has seemingly lost patience with McLaren-Honda and has publicly expressed his determination to win next year.
Briatore was pictured in conversation with Mercedes bosses in Baku, fuelling speculation that Alonso could race alongside Lewis Hamilton once again.
The former team principal, though, has hinted that a return to Maranello could also be on the cards given that there was no breakdown in relations leading to his departure.
“He always got along with everyone [at Ferrari] and only had problems with [former team principal Marco] Mattiacci,” he told Italian radio station Rai.

“In this life you cannot exclude anything. Fernando is a bit like Senna, who had no problem with any team – he only needs a car capable of winning.”
The door could well be open for the 35-year old, with Valtteri Bottas on a one-year deal and Kimi Raikkonen potentially set to retire.
Alonso, perhaps the key figure in this year’s driver market, has also been linked with Red Bull and Renault.
