Kent in for injured Antonelli in Germany

Danny Kent will make his second Moto3 appearance this season with the Red Bull KTM Ajo squad, as the Briton is drafted in to replace the injured Niccolo Antonelli at the German Grand Prix.

Kent sensationally parted ways with the Kiefer Racing Moto2 team at the Austin round at the start of the season, claiming the former champions were unable to provide a bike he could truly express his talent on after a season-and-a-bit of dismal results.

The 2015 Moto3 world champion with the Leopard-backed Kiefer team was thrown a lifeline by former employer Aki Ajo to wildcard at the French Grand Prix with the outfit he won two races with in 2012.

Kent qualified 10th and went on to finish in that position. He was back in action two weeks later at Mugello, this time in the Moto2 class, as Iker Lecuona’s replacement at the Interwetten team, qualifying a respectable 12th but crashing out of the race.

I can’t wait to compete for the Red Bull KTM Ajo team again – this time at the German Grand Prix,” he said.

Sachsenring is also on of my favourite circuits. Obviously I will need some time to get used to the characteristics of the Moto3 bike, because at Mugello I returned to Moto2.

In any case, I’m sure we can get a good result by working hard together with the team. I want to thank Aki, Red Bull KTM and the whole team for giving me this opportunity.”

The Briton’s call-up comes after Niccolo Antonelli injured his back following two crashes during the Dutch TT weekend, and we declared unfit to ride. The Italian also dislocated his shoulder during a private test just prior to the event.

Kent’s last Moto3 outing at the Sachsenring was a particularly memorable one, as he cruised to his fifth win of his title-winning 2015 campaign by over seven seconds to Leopard team-mate Efren Vazquez.
