Force India is set to change its name for next season, reflecting a more international flavour with recent sponsorship deals coming from outside of their homeland.
An article from German publication Auto Motor und Sport has suggested ‘Force 1’ is the favourite, just months after Austrian water company BWT became their main sponsor which has seen their colour scheme change from predominately silver to pink.
Fuelling the speculation, sporting director Otmar Szafnauer said to AMuS “We will provide the application at the end of the season, to change the name”. He also suggested ‘Force’ will remain in the name, “The word should remain force in the name, so people always know where we come from.”
The renaming comes after speculation the team could be sold and rebranded as Brabham. Initially reported by Autocar, the team could emulate McLaren in building supercars, following extensive investment from the United States. Brabham name rights holder, David Brabham has so far distanced himself from the reports.
Force India is currently sitting fourth in the constructors’ championship, 39 points ahead of rivals Williams. The fourth place last year was the best for the Silverstone based team since Jordan in 1999, where two wins saw the team finish third.
