2017 Berlin ePrix weekend recap

The first double-header of the 2016/17 Formula E season has now concluded, with the Berlin ePrix more successful for some than others.

The addition of the second race at the Tempelhof circuit came about due to the cancellation of the  Brussels ePrix earlier this year. Originally only the final two race weekends in New York and Montreal in  July were meant to last two rounds each.

Saturday saw Renault e.dams qualify low, with championship leader Sebastien Buemi starting in the bottom half of the grid. He was able to finish fifth to still keep a good lead to Lucas di Grassi, but was disqualified after the race after his tyres were found to be under the minimum pressure on both cars.

For Mahindra its weekend in  Berlin was its most successful time in FE. Felix Rosenqvist picked up his and the team’s first win in the series during race one with Nick Heidfeld also finishing on the podium.

The Swedish driver also qualified on pole position for race two and won the race on track, but a 10-second penalty gained for an incident in the pits moved him down to second behind Buemi.

We recap the major talking points from this weekend, and what it could mean going into the final stages of the 2016/17 season.
