Buemi saw no need to overtake Rosenqvist

Sebastien Buemi said that he didn’t see the need to take the lead from Felix Rosenqvist due to the penalty he sustained.

The Swedish driver won the race on the track, but picked up a 10 second time penalty for an unsafe release into his incoming Mahindra team-mate during the pit stops.

Buemi finished the race in second, but by being two seconds behind picked up the 25 points for first place.

“Of course [I could have overtaken him],” Buemi told e-racing after the race concluded. “On the other hand when I saw he was going to get the penalty I didn’t put any pressure on him.”

Buemi started the race from second place behind Rosenqvist, who was able to get a good gap between the two before the middle of the first lap.

The defending Formula E champion hopes to make it to one of the two races in New York next month, but conceded that the decision lies with his World Endurance Championship team Toyota.

“The priority goes to Toyota, so if they don’t want me to race [in Formula E] then I won’t race.

“I really hope they will allow me to have a special meeting and maybe do New York on the Saturday and Nurburgring on the Sunday, but until then I am not there.”

Buemi leaves Berlin with a gap of 32 points to championship rival Lucas di Grassi. He would’ve been further ahead but he was disqualified from the first race of the weekend through no fault of his own.
