Daniel Abt sustained damage to his car from contact with Sam Bird during the race, but went on to finish fourth.
Sam Bird made contact with his team-mate Jose Maria Lopez during the first stint of the race, which led Bird to go off track. The Brit hit Abt when returning back onto the track at turn 1.
“Today it was quite a hectic race,” Abt told Read Motorsport after the race. “We had some quite hard fights against Vergne and actually Bird when he had the mistake or touched with his team-mate.
“He came back on track and hit me, so my steering wheel was bent for the last seven laps in the first stint which was not the greatest thing to have.”
The 24-year-old started the race in eighth position alongside his team-mate Lucas di Grassi, who was able to make his way into the top three by the time the race concluded.
The result means that Abt has caught up to both Bird and Lopez in the drivers’ championship. Bird is currently just one point ahead in eighth while Lopez is sitting on 50 points in seven, four more than Abt.
