Fukuzumi tops final GP3 in-season test day

Honda junior Nirei Fukuzumi has topped the timesheets on the second and final in-season test day at the Hungaroring.

The GP3 championship leader set a lap time of 1m31.943s, the only driver to reach into the 1m31s barrier, to lead the way by 0.060s ahead of team-mate Jack Aitken in the morning.

Mercedes-backed George Russell completed an ART 1-2-3 by lapping within 0.075s of the Japanese, with Campos’ Raoul Hyman finishing fourth. Hyman finished fastest in the afternoon session with a time 0.063s slower than his morning attempt.

Times remained close in the opening hours of the test as fifth to tenth were separated by just 0.214s. Arden’s Leonardo Pulcini ended the first session ahead of team-mate and Red Bull protege Niko Kari.

Ferrari academy driver, and son of F1 driver Jean, Giuliano Alesi, was the fastest Trident driver of the day, leading Dorian Boccolacci. DAMS’ Haas-backed Santino Ferrucci and Alessio Lorandi completed the top-10.

Haas’ development driver Arjun Maini missed out on a place amongst the 10 fastest drivers, 0.054s slower than his Jenzer team-mate Lorandi.

Sauber’s Tatiana Calderon finished 18th, while Campos’ Julien Falchero was last in the order, 1.033s adrift of Fukuzumi’s time.

Drivers will return to a racetrack for the second round of the 2017 campaign at Austria on July 7-9.
