Alex Marquez topped the times in the second Moto2 free practice session at Mugello, taking over from teammate Franco Morbidelli who topped FP1.
Marquez fought back against the Italian at his home circuit, and ended Friday on top. Morbidelli would have to settle for third, with Takaaki Nakagami finishing behind Marquez in second place.
The Italians were out in force behind the top three, with veterans Mattia Pasini and Simone Corsi finishing in fourth and fifth place respectively. Francesco Bagnaia would join them in sixth place.
The returning Brad Binder impressed in the session. The South African missed the races at Jerez and Le Mans through injury but is fit enough to ride at Mugello. He finished in seventh, just ahead of teammate Miguel Oliveria.
Tom Luthi was ninth, whilst Lorenzo Baldassari rounded out the top ten finishers.
The Moto2 riders will return to the Mugello circuit tomorrow to decide the grid for Sunday’s race.
