Danny Kent gets Moto2 return in stand in ride at Mugello

Danny Kent will return to the Moto2 class at Mugello as an injury stand in for the Garage Plus Interwetten squad.

The recently unemployed Kent will deputise for Spaniard Iker Leucona, who injured himself in a crash at Le Mans last time out. The 17-year-old had already missed the first three rounds of the season before again injuring himself again.

This offers Kent a return to the class he left after splitting with the Kiefer Racing Suter team after the Austin round. Kent split with the team after “irreconcilable differences” between himself and the Kiefer outfit with the Briton later speaking about how he felt “unsafe” riding the Suter machinery. Kiefer replaced Kent with 2016 British Supersport Champion Tarran Mackenzie.

The Briton was able to ride at Le Mans for the KTM Red Bull Ajo team in Moto3, managing a tenth-placed finish. He also tested for KTM at the Jerez test.

This ride gives Kent another opportunity to get valuable track time, as the 2015 Moto3 World Champion attempts to secure his future in the world championship.
