Where to watch: Alonso to test at IMS

The IndyCar Series website and its affiliates will broadcast Fernando Alonso’s highly-anticipated unofficial Indianapolis 500 debut live on May 3 at 9:30 AM ET (13:30 UTC). Alonso’s test will be broadcasted all of the Series’ streaming and social media services; including, YouTube and Facebook.

Alonso will get his first taste of Indianapolis Motor Speedway in an Indycar, as he prepares for the Indy 500 in 26 days. The Spaniard received a special exemption to test at IMS as he prepares to tackle the Greatest Spectacle In Racing on relatively short notice.

The two-time F1 world champion, will be in a one car team come race day with full backing from McLaren F1 and Honda, with Andretti Autosport managing race operations. The McLaren Honda Andretti outfit will be Alonso’s best chance at completing two legs of the Triple Crown of Motorsport.

Weather for Alonso’s debut is expected to be clear, although rain is expected later throughout the day. If the weather does prove to be wet during Alonso’s test, it will not provide much useful data for the Spaniard, as the Indy 500 is not held in wet conditions.

The last time the Indy 500 experienced rain, Dario Franchitti won a rain-shortened race under caution after 166 laps in 2007.
