Top five: Worst home grands prix

Sebastian Vettel leads the world championship coming into this weekend’s Russian Grand Prix.

The German took his second win of the season under the floodlights of Bahrain, giving him a seven point lead over Lewis Hamilton – while Ferrari now holds a three point advantage over Mercedes.

Two of the three races we’ve had so far in Sochi have been poor, but there is some hope for this weekend with 2015 providing a thrilling finish where only 13 cars crossed the finishing line.

It will certainly be great to watch the faster, grippier cars go through the long, looping Turn 3 and we could see some lunges into the many heavy braking zones located on the circuit.

Last year’s race is infamous for the first lap collisions between Daniil Kvyat and Sebastian Vettel, which saw the German in the wall at Turn 3 and the Russian sent back to Toro Rosso immediately.

In honour of Kvyat’s misdemeanours, we have chosen the five worst home grand prix that a driver has suffered. Take a look at our list and comment below if you think we missed one!
