Raikkonen sets fastest time of testing on final day in Barcelona

Kimi Raikkonen set the fastest time of 2017 Formula 1 winter testing so far on the super-soft tyres on the final day of testing.

Raikkonen’s time of a 1m18.634s is the fastest of winter testing and continues Ferrari’s impressive form going into the start of the season which gets underway on March 26 in Australia.

The Finn completed 107 laps in the SF70-H.

Max Verstappen ended the day in second place but was 0.804s off Raikkonen’s impressive benchmark on the same tyres. The Dutchman only completed 69 laps in the RB13 after a turbo issue kept him in the garage for some of the day.

Carlos Sainz completed the second most laps of anyone in the STR12, 129 in total and was third on the ultra-soft tyres.

Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton were separated by just 0.005s in fourth and fifth place completing 52 and 53 laps respectively in the W08.

Sergio Perez completed 128 laps in the VJM10 as Force India continued to rack up the laps.

After a difficult first week in the car, Lance Stroll looked to be more consistent and less error-prone in the FW40, completing the most laps of anyone on his way to ninth fastest ahead of Haas’ Roman Grosjean, who ended up in the gravel on two separate occasions.

It was another difficult day for McLaren-Honda and Fernando Alonso who stopped out on track twice and completed just 43 laps while Sauber looks to be the slowest team going into Melbourne.
