Spencer Pigot will return to Ed Carpenter Racing for IndyCar’s road and street races this season, the team has confirmed today.
The 23-year-old will once again pair up with team owner Ed Carpenter in the No. 20 car, with Carpenter competing in oval races and Pigot taking part in the 11 road and street courses that the series will visit this year.
“I learned a lot in my rookie year and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to build on that experience,” said Pigot. “I know I have the team around me to fight at the front and that’s what we’ll be trying to do in 2017.”

Pigot earned a chance to race in IndyCar last season after winning the 2015 Indy Lights Championship. He joined Rahal Letterman Laningan Racing for three races before joining Ed Carpenter Racing. Seventh place at Mid-Ohio was his best finish of his rookie season.
Carpenter thinks that Pigot has the potential to become a major name in IndyCar. “We are happy to have Spencer back. It was a challenging situation for him to step into the team last year mid-season as a rookie.
“We believe that Spencer has the potential to be a contender in this sport and we will continue to focus on maximizing that potential.”
He will be joined at the team by JR Hildebrand, who will drive the No. 21 car for the full season. The 29-year-old replaced Josef Newgarden, who has made the move to Team Penske.
