Felipe Nasr believes the upcoming Brazilian Grand Prix at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is Sauber’s best chance of scoring their first points of the season.
Sauber are on course to fail to score points for a second season out of three. The Swiss-based squad currently sit 11th in the Constructors’ Championship, one place behind Manor. It is believed 10th in the championship is worth nearly $30 million in prize money meaning claiming 10th is so crucial for a team like Sauber who are struggling for funds.
The Brazilian GP is usually very unpredictable in terms of weather and Nasr thinks it will be his best chance of scoring points this season, which is coincidentally his home event.
“In terms of getting a point, in Sao Paulo, as we know there is always a question mark on the weather, it can be anything — sunny or rainy on the same day,” said Nasr.
“And this could play into our hands, in terms of having tricky conditions out there or if the track is wet or dry enough.
“I would expect something like this that would help us score points because in normal conditions, on pure performance, we don’t have the car to achieve a top 10 finish. “We need this combination and let’s count on home soil too to bring us luck. It’s better to be positive than not,” he added.
Nasr’s future in F1 is still uncertain with the Brazilian being linked with the vacant seat at Force India.
