Ricciardo wants Monaco ‘karma’ in Singapore

Daniel Ricciardo plans to use his Monaco agony as extra motivation at the Singapore GP.

The Australian dominated the weekend in Monte Carlo, taking his first pole position, but missed out on the Sunday after a botched pit-stop let Lewis Hamilton get ahead.

With the streets of Marina Bay offering Red Bull their best chance to repeat the result from back in May, the Australian believes justice is in order.

“I don’t believe in much, but if there is a little bit of karma or whatever, I’d like to think that I will get my Monaco win back somewhere,” he said looking ahead to this weekend’s event.

“Singapore is a track which I want to [win at].I don’t expect to be handed a victory, absolutely not, but I feel if I work very well across that weekend, then it should hopefully provide me with a chance. So Singapore is one I am looking at.”

With Singapore the nearest race outside his native Australia, he can also expect a bit more ‘home’ support this weekend.

Since his promotion from Toro Rosso in 2014, Ricciardo has finished in the top three both times, including pushing Sebastian Vettel all the way for victory last year.

His Red Bull car is perhaps the strongest it has been in his two-and-two-third seasons with the team and the ‘Honey Badger’ will be keen to return to the podium after having a three-race streak ended at Monza.

Another strong battle with Ferrari is expected as well as Mercedes should they be more competitive than last year.

But this weekend’s race will also provide a great opportunity to increase his 18-point lead over the two Scuderia drivers as Ricciardo looks to cement third in the Drivers’ standings.
