Formula E could see up to 24 cars on the grid by the time season five starts in 2018, CEO Alejandro Agag has told Motorsport.com.
The series is planning on moving towards having one car per driver for the 2018/19 season. Formula E can only have a maximum of ten teams whilst drivers have to use two cars in the race.
Agag says that it is his decision as to whether the championship will expand to 12 teams, “When we race with one car [per driver] in season five, it is up to me if we allocate two more entries to bring the number up 12 teams. At the moment we are not decided if we will allocate them or not.

Season two only saw nine teams competing, with the Trulli team failing to take part in the first two races and then dropped out of the series altogether. Jaguar Racing have joined Formula E for season three, while Team Aguri have become Techeetah.
“Obviously for the teams that currently have entries they would prefer for us not to allocate them, because their franchise has more value.
“But we have the capacity in our contract to make an allocation, so we will have to reflect and discuss with the teams.”
Season three in Formula E won’t see a big advancement in the technology, although some of the rules have changed. Power regeneration has increased from 100kW to 150kW, while the car weight has been reduced eight kilograms.
