Rio Haryanto and his management team are fighting hard to ensure the Indonesian can continue with Manor when the season resumes in Belgium later this month.
In the build-up to the German Grand Prix, it was announced Haryanto had only secured enough sponsorship to take him up to the Hungarian Grand Prix despite signing a season-long contract with Manor.
The rookie was given permission to participate at Hockenheim, despite the funding issues, but now he and his team face a race against time to secure the required financial backing that will guarantee his continued involvement with the team after the summer break.
“It will be quite a busy summer break for me,” Haryanto told F1i.com
“We need to find some financial support from some sponsors. My management is currently working very hard, we’re going to have a few meetings over the next couple of weeks and hopefully, there is good news coming out of it.
“I’m disappointed. It’s not easy as there is still a doubt as to what is going to happen in the future. I believe in my management and they are currently working hard to secure the seat for the whole season.”
The Indonesian has been far from just a ‘pay driver’ on the grid in 2016, keeping his highly regarded teammate Pascal Wehrlein very much on his toes.
However, if Haryanto cannot secure the funding needed, thought to be around seven million Euros, names such as McLaren’s Stoffel Vandoorne or Renault reserve driver Esteban Ocon have been suggested as potential replacements.
