2009 World Champion Jenson Button says that he is not treating this weekend’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone as his last appearance at his home race.
The 36-year-old’s future has been in question for a while as his contract with the struggling McLaren team is ending at the end of this campaign and young Belgian prodigy Stoffel Vandoorne is expected to replace him.
Button is rumoured to be interested in a return to Williams, who are currently attempting to establish themselves as the fourth fastest team.
Although, amongst rumours that his F1 career is nearing an end, the Briton could possibly be facing the prospect that this will be the last home race of this long Formula One career.
“There is no point thinking it might be my last.” He continued to describe how he is unsure what emotions he will be going through this weekend,” Button said. “In a way, it would be a shame if I didn’t think of it as my last British Grand Prix and it was.”
“Bugger it, I want to do another season.”

The British driver has never finished on the podium at the British Grand Prix and despite a great performance at the Austrian Grand Prix, it’s unlikely that his McLaren could land him there without the assistance of some front-runners retiring.
Button also described his need for a British GP podium.
“But there is one thing that is definitely missing and that is the British Grand Prix – and it is not just the win, it’s even being on the podium.”
The home fans this weekend have three British drivers to chant on – Button, Lewis Hamilton and rookie Jolyon Palmer. Hamilton is the only candidate who has a shot at a win – let alone a podium – with the McLarens and Renaults proving to be off the pace.
