Wolff describes Mercedes collision as ‘brainless’

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff described the collision between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg as ‘brainless’ which cost the Silver Arrows a 1-2 finish at the Austrian Grand Prix.

Rosberg is currently under investigation for causing the incident on the final lap which cost the German a podium finish whilst teammate Hamilton went on to claim his first win at the Red Bull Ring.

Going into Turn 2, the pair touched after Rosberg attempted to push Hamilton off the circuit. Rosberg damaged his front wing whilst Hamilton managed to get through unscathed and made it to the chequered flag in one piece.

“Brainless,” Wolff told Sky Sports when asked for his opinion on the accident between his two drivers.

“We were marginal on brakes, if not to say completely over the brakes, but we couldn’t tell the drivers. Nico had a brake-by-wire failure onto the last straight and defended very hard.

“To see both cars colliding is upsetting.”

Rosberg sits 11 points clear of Hamilton in the drivers’ standings with the British Grand Prix at Silverstone taking place in seven days time.
