Rosberg hit with five-place grid penalty

Mercedes have confirmed Nico Rosberg will be forced to change his gearbox after crashing heavily in FP3.

Rosberg suffered a suspension issue with 15 minutes of the final practice remaining. Initially, it looked like driver error but replays showed the rear of Rosberg’s W07 suffered a failure causing him to spin on the exit of Turn 3.

Mercedes have since confirmed that the accident was caused by a left rear top wishbone failures.

Sebastian Vettel will also drop back five places after changing his gearbox for this weekend. The German’s gearbox suffered some damage at the European Grand Prix in Baku a fortnight ago.
