Jean-Eric Vergne was very happy with his performance to finish third place in the London ePrix, after a lucky qualifying session.
The Frenchman was in the first qualifying group and battered the barrier on his flying out. His earlier lap was good enough to finish fourth. His luck came from the weather, which intervened before Group Three and stopped Sebastien Buemi and Lucas di Grassi from setting a fast time.
“I’m really happy and owe this one to my team,” Vergne said on his team’s post-race press release, going on to comment about the qualifying session. “Today I had some luck after my crash when the rain came, so no one could beat my time.”
He didn’t end up being troubled during the penultimate race of the season. Nico Prost and Bruno Senna were ahead, but Robin Frijns held the drivers behind for the majority of the race.
“The team has done an incredible job to fix the car in time before the race, so I need to say a big thanks to them. Hopefully we can get another good result tomorrow.”
