Vettel: “We still have a long way to go”

Sebastian Vettel is confident Ferrari are heading in the right direction but has admitted they still have a long way to go.

Ferrari has had their chances to record wins this season but fell short either in performance or strategy on each occasion. This will be especially disappointing for Vettel who was there to take the victory at each race Mercedes weren’t quite at their best in 2015.

With the reemergence of Red Bull this season winning opportunities in Australia, Bahrain and Canada have slipped away from both Vettel and Ferrari.

Speaking at the FIA Sports Conference in Turin, Vettel spoke about how the team is still adjusting to the numerous changes made in the past two years. “We still have a long way to go, I think the moment I joined the team there was a lot of things changing so it still takes some time but we don’t allow ourselves to take that time,”

“We have very, very ambitious targets and obviously great competition, but ultimately we want to prove the point that we are the best, we want to win,” he said.

Vettel knows the car is still lacking in overall speed but is confident the team can unlock the potential in the SF16-H before switching focus to developing the 2017 car.

“Naturally after a great season last year when we finished second in the world constructors’ championship we want to step up already this year.”

“Currently, we’re still lacking a little bit of speed here and there but it’s getting better, I think the car has great potential. The people are coming along so the whole project starts to move in the right direction so I’m confident we will have a bright future,” he concluded.
