Rosberg not writing off Hamilton challenge

Nico Rosberg is not writing off the possibility that teammate Lewis Hamilton could challenge him for victory despite his crash in qualifying.

Rosberg took his third pole position of the season as Hamilton crashed in Q3, brushing the wall at Turn 11.

The contact resulted in damage to the right front wheel, Hamilton had already failed to set a time previous to his accident and therefore, starts tenth on the grid.

However, Rosberg says he cannot ignore Hamilton’s potential threat during tomorrow’s Grand Prix.

“Lewis, never forget him. He can always come back from tenth,” Rosberg said.

“One one side I am sad for my team colleagues because they want a 1-2. It is still possible tomorrow. Lewis has shown from 10th place he can come strong.

“He finished an easy second in Russia.”

Speaking about his pole lap, the German added: “It was great. It was one of the more challenging sessions out there but everything worked out well.

“I had to do a bit of reorganising in Q3 after Lewis had an off in front of me and I had to abort that lap, so I had to do it again but that was okay. It was great.

“I am really pleased with that, all weekend building towards it and in qualifying it was really optimum so it felt good.”
