This weekend Formula One heads to the Baku Street Circuit in Azerbaijan for the European Grand Prix. The European GP was last on the Formula One calendar in 2012 where the circus headed to the Valencia Street Circuit in Spain. Baku makes its debut this weekend with a unique but challenging design by architect Hermann Tilke. The circuit is expected to be the fastest street circuit in the world and the second longest circuit on the current Formula One calendar behind the legendary Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.
Lewis Hamilton made it back-to-back wins in Canada, storming to his fifth win at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve ahead of Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel, who briefly led the race after a fantastic start from third on the grid. Championship leader Nico Rosberg had another race to forget, finishing a distant fifth place, after dropping to tenth on the opening lap. Valtteri Bottas scored Williams’ first podium of the season whilst Toro Rosso’s Carlos Sainz recovered from 20th on the grid to finish ninth, ahead of Force India’s Sergio Perez. A new circuit always provides new challenges and perhaps a different team may come to the forefront.
