Kvyat glad to finish “boring” Canadian GP

Daniil Kvyat had a more anonymous race than he has experienced in recent weekends, finishing just outside the points in twelfth after the ultrasoft tyres didn’t work quite how Toro Rosso expected.

“If I say the truth, it was quite a boring race today… Unfortunately, I spent most of my race stuck behind a car and in traffic.”

Kvyat started the race in fifteenth and on the ultrasoft tyres. The Russian struggled against Romain Grosjean as the pair moved up through the field to just outside the points.

Sergio Perez split the two of them halfway through the race, making a new opportunity for the Russian for the twelfth spot.

“We were trying to fight for that last point with Perez, but they were just that bit faster and we didn’t manage to get in front of him. We then switched to the Ultrasoft tyres for the last stint.”

Unfortunately for the Toro Rosso driver, the tyres didn’t work quite how he hoped. Though he managed to get ahead of Perez in the pits, the Force India driver managed to get back ahead on the track.

“The set didn’t quite give us what we expected and they got destroyed while battling with the other cars around us.”

Kvyat did look at the positives, happy with the finish after his retirement last time out in Monaco.

“It was a clean weekend for me, something which I needed. We were able to finish the race, as well as get important data for myself and the team, to learn as much as we can.”

Now the Russian is focusing on the next race, hoping he can go one step further and return to the points finishes from Baku.

“The next race is just around the corner, so we can start thinking of that straight away and forget about today… We now need to start showing some performance and I hope we do this starting from Baku next week.”
