Hamilton remains on top in Canadian GP second practice

Lewis Hamilton continued to show why he is the man the beat at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve after he topped the timesheets in second practice for the Canadian Grand Prix ahead of Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel.

Hamilton has previously won the Canadian Grand Prix on four previous occasions, in particular, in 2007 where the Brit took his first win in Formula One for McLaren.

Vettel was just 0.257s off Hamilton’s benchmark but many pundits expect Mercedes to extend their lead over Ferrari and Red Bull in tomorrow’s qualifying session.

Hamilton’s teammate, Nico Rosberg was 0.526s off the pace, ending FP2 in third place.

Max Verstappen was an impressive fourth fastest ahead of Red Bull teammate Daniel Ricciardo, just under a second shy of Hamilton’s benchmark having led the way early on.

Valtteri Bottas was a solid sixth, at a circuit which has traditionally served the Finn well in recent seasons where he qualified third for Williams in 2013 and finished third last season.

McLaren will be encouraged by Jenson Button’s pace, ending FP2 in seventh ahead of Kimi Raikkonen, Nico Hulkenberg and Carlos Sainz.
