Round seven of the 2016 Formula One season heads to the legendary Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for the Canadian Grand Prix. The circuit was originally named the Île Notre-Dame Circuit when constructed in 1978 however it was later renamed in honour of Gilles Villeneuve who tragically died at the 1982 Belgium Grand Prix.
The battle at the top of the Drivers’ Championship continues to hot up after Lewis Hamilton stormed to his first win of the season at Monaco whilst teammate Nico Rosberg struggled on his way home to a lowly seventh. The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is one of Hamilton’s strongest circuits alongside the Hungaroring and surely will be fancying his chances this weekend.
The last two races have been strong for Red Bull, however, many expect Canada to be more difficult for the Milton Keynes based squad with long straights expecting to favour the Mercedes-powered teams.
Williams tend to go well in Canada whilst Force India will be hoping to build on their podium finish in Monaco.
First practice for the Canadian Grand Prix gets underway at 1500 BST.
