Magnussen overjoyed to score Renault’s first points

Kevin Magnussen was extremely happy to score Renault’s first points since the French manufacturer returned to Formula One.

Magnussen failed to get out of Q1 and barely survived the first corner, however, he did ultimately benefit and ran in ninth early on.

“I made a great start, but then lost a couple of positions at the first corner because of a spin in front of me.

“After that, I was pushing hard for the entire race, made some good overtakes and I had a great pit stop from the crew.”

The former McLaren driver admitted he was fortunate to benefit from the misfortune of others but did drive a faultless race and managed to maintain a small gap to Grosjean who in turn held back the charging Sergio Perez, Carlos Sainz, and Jenson Button.

“We were a bit lucky today; we’ve been unlucky in the past so I’ve certainly no complaints!”

Renault has endured a difficult return to Formula One as a manufacturer this season and this result will be a great achievement for the whole team.

“It feels really good to get these points for the team as I know how hard everyone’s been working this season.”
