Ultrasoft tyres confirmed for Austria

Pirelli have announced they will be taking the new ultrasoft tyres for the Austrian Grand Prix in July.

The Italian tyre manufacturer will also take the red marked supersoft tyres and the soft compound tyre as mandatory rubber.

The new tyre rules introduced this season allow for teams to choose three compounds per race, in a bid to widen the number of strategies and bring more excitement to the races.

This will mark the third appearance for the ultrasoft tyre in 2016, Pirelli have already confirmed the tyre will debut in the Monaco Grand Prix before being used again in Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix.

The purple-walled tyre was devised by Pirelli for this year as an extra choice for teams, particularly on street circuits and tracks with low degradation.

Pirelli also confirmed the ultrasoft would not be used in Baku for the European Grand Prix, opting for the supersofts as the faster tyre instead.
