Marquez not as confident of win ahead of Jerez

Current MotoGP Championship leader Marc Marquez is not expecting to continue his form shown in Argentina and Austin this weekend.

Speaking at the pre-race press conference, The Repsol Honda rider did not seem as confident as he did before the third round in Austin, especially due to the nature of the European tracks.

“We’ll try to continue the same way but now we come to Europe so that means European style tracks. They’re a little different compared to American, Argentina and Qatar. Here they are more narrow and we’ll see how we can manage this and how the setup is on these kind of tracks. Anyway, I’m happy because it looks like we’re better each time and the feeling with the bike is better.”

Marquez currently leads the championship with 66 points ahead of Jorge Lorenzo who is 21 points behind after crashing out in Argentina. His confidence grew when speaking about the bike, however, he confirmed that many changes have been made to the bike since the team tested here in November.

“We did a test in November but from then till now you can imagine how many changes there have been on the bike. We’ll see how the tyres work on this track and with this kind of asphalt.”

The Jerez track tends to favour Lorenzo and his Yamaha M1, with the 2015 world champion dominating last year’s race. Marquez acknowledged that Lorenzo is strong at the Andalucian circuit.

“Here’s a track where Jorge is usually pretty strong so we’ll see.”

The action at Jerez gets underway at 8:55am BST
