Lorenzo remains focused on task in hand

Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo remains focused on his 2016 season after revealing this week he will be moving to Ducati for 2017 and 2018.

All the attention surrounded the Movistar Yamaha rider who took centre stage at the pre-race press conference ahead of the fourth round of the MotoGP championship in Jerez. Lorenzo again deflected away from the future when asked about his move to Ducati in 2017.

“It has been one of the most important and difficult decisions of my life and my career. But for this moment, it’s still far away, very far away.”Mirco Lazzari gp/Getty Images Sport

Lorenzo currently sits second in the Drivers’ Championship behind Repsol Honda rider Marc Marquez after failing to finish during the second round of the season in Argentina where he fell early on in the race. Lorenzo is choosing to remain focused on this season though.

“Still 15 races remaining so at this moment I have all my attention in the present and in this championship I really want to fight in this championship and fight my hardest for my fourth MotoGP world title. At this moment I just think in blue and try to get the best results I can with this team.”

Reflecting back on his performance so far this season, which will be his last with Yamaha (for now), he was disappointed with his non-finish in Argentina but happy to improve in Austin and claim valuable points for the championship.

“We’re second in the championship and we have a high chance to fight for it. We’re 21 points behind, last year we were 29 and now I feel we have a higher potential than last year to win races.”

The action all kicks off for the MotoGP riders at 0855 BST on Friday.
