Lorenzo remaining quiet about future ahead of Austin GP

The 2015 MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo is insisting on staying quiet about his future following on from the pre-race press conference at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

The Movistar Yamaha rider is surrounded by speculation as to whether or not he will make the rumoured move to Ducati for the 2017 season. It was the question everyone was dying to know the answer to at the press conference; however Lorenzo refrained from speaking about his future claiming, “I cannot tell you anything more than in Argentina.” Not giving any insight as to when he plans on revealing his plans the Spaniard said, “When my decision is made in the future you will all know.”

Despite his success finishing first at the season opener in Qatar, Lorenzo crashed out of the second round in Argentina following a difficult weekend. Throughout, he looked uncomfortable and unhappy with the handling on the front of his M1, not spending as much time on the track during free practice and not seeming as content and steady as usual.

Despite leading into the first corner Lorenzo was sixth by the end of the first lap and then he hit a damp spot with his rear tyre on turn one of the second lap resulting in him crashing out of the race.

He said, “Obviously in Argentina the conditions of the track were really complicated for everyone but some of them stayed on their bike and I made a mistake. I didn’t feel great on the bike in the first laps and I lost a lot of metres with the first group. I just pushed too much in this first corner which had a lot of wet patches and I crashed.”

Ever the perfectionist, Lorenzo said, “For sure normally I’m quite a safe rider. Nobody is perfect! I make this mistake and I try to learn from it for the future. I look forward for this race; I think we have a good potential in normal conditions, normal tarmac, normal tracks, and normal conditions.”

Lorenzo finished fourth after qualifying third on the grid when the MotoGP field visited the Circuit of the Americas in 2015. Lorenzo will not only have to overcome his problems with the front of the M1 but along with other riders and tyre manufacturers Michelin, will have to work towards solving any issues that may have been raised with the rear in time for the race on Sunday.
