Zarco takes the Moto2 win from Lowes and Folger

Ajo Motorsport’s Johann Zarco has won the Moto2 race at the Argentine Grand Prix.

The defending Moto2 world champion gives a masterclass in riding in difficult track conditions, recovering from a disappointing outing at Qatar, that saw him join the number of riders who suffered a ride-through penalty.

Britain’s Sam Lowes finished 2nd on the Gresini Kalex, eventually 1.3 behind the Frenchman. Sam led the race from the 3rd lap stretching out a marginal lead of 0.9 seconds before Zarco closed and passed Sam with eleven laps to go.

Running wide at turn five Lowes, the former World Supersport champion, let Morbidelli through into 2nd place, before regathering composure, and taking back the 2nd step on the podium.

Morbidelli himself had the podium in his sights but slid out a few laps later in a strange crash that saw him stay with the bike and slide to the middle of the track.

Jonas Folger closed out the podium after leading the race in the early laps, while riding a sensible race mostly at the back of the leading pack after making a few small mistakes and running wide, being gifted a podium after Morbidelli’s crash.

The next Moto2 race is at The Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas on the 10th of April.
