Extra FP session cancelled due to fuel shortage

As MotoGP woke to rain in Argentina this morning, Race Direction took the decision to cancel the planned extra MotoGP free practice session.

The extra session was planned with the express interests of teams adapting to the compulsory new dry tyre allocated in the wake of Scott Redding’s rear tyre failure in FP4 on Saturday. Teams won’t have a chance to test that new tyre on a wet track.

If the session were to have gone ahead as planned, albeit on wet tyres, a further session would have been necessary to test the new compulsory tyre should the track dry before the race.

Although teams have enough fuel for an additional 30 minute session, they don’t have enough for two extra sessions. FP5 has therefore been cancelled until it is clear whether the track will be wet or dry for the race.

Today’s schedule currently runs as follows:

Moto3 warm up 1340 BST

Moto2 warm up 1410 BST

MotoGP warm up 1440 BST

Moto3 race 1700 BST

Moto2 race 1820 BST

MotoGP race 2000 BST
