Formula E boss Alejandro Agag has confirmed there are ‘surprises’ in store for the third season of the series, with a calendar due in time for the Long Beach ePrix in three weeks time.
Despite previously hoping a calendar would be out in March, it looks like this has been pushed back to early April with what have been described as ‘surprises’ by the series CEO Agag.
A number of changes have already been announced, with 12 cities expected to host races, up from the 10 this season. Punta del Este has already had a question mark put against them for another season with the series, and the first round in Beijing also in doubt if not handed the opening round.
Talking to Motorsport.com, Agag said: “The teams want 11 or 12 races. We want to present a tentative schedule in April and give a surprise.”
In South America, Brazil was one of the original destinations on the calendar but was dropped before the first season. Agag stated that a race in Brazil was ‘complicated’, suggesting that a race in Rio de Janeiro was not expected soon. He also confirmed Mexico and Buenos Aires are both likely to remain.
With Mexico City the first permanent race circuit on the schedule, he also confirmed that it was unlikely any more circuits would join the series. This would effectively rule out the rumoured race at Imola which was floated as idea last year.
Also rumoured for the third season is a race in Brussels to slot in during the ‘European’ season, a race in Marrakech and a number of locations in the Middle East including Qatar, Dubai and Bahrain.
