Loi sets the pace on day two of Moto3 test in Qatar

Despite a slow start to testing during the first session of day two at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar for Moto3, RW Racing GP rider Livio Loi managed to make his way up the timesheets finishing first top after session three and overall after day two with a time of 2:05.824. Loi was the only rider so far that has been able to break the 2:06 barrier.

Loi finished ahead of Jorge Navarro who was fastest on day one. Navarro was unable to beat his time of 2:06.176 despite being fastest after session two and did not make it out in session 3, but his time from day one has left him second fastest overall aboard the Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS bike.

Fabio Quartararo finished second fastest during sessions two and three but was unable to beat Navarro’s previous time, his time of 2:06.193 left him in third overall. Rookie Sky VR46 Racing Team rider Nicolo Bulega appeared once again near the top of the timesheet on day two, he was third fastest after session three and fourth overall just above teammate Romano Fenati.

Thirteen riders finished within one second of the leader Loi after the end of day two. Like in the Moto2 class, not all riders made it out during the first session.

The only female rider Maria Herrera in the Moto3 managed to finish an impressive ninth place after setting a strong time of 2:06.728 aboard her MH6 Laglisse Team bike. Her time was just 0.904 seconds slower than leader Loi and left her in eleventh place overall at the end of day two.

British rider John McPhee managed to gain five places on the timesheet finishing twenty-second after improving his time from day one by over half a second on his Peugeot MC Saxoprint Team bike, however, he is still just over two seconds slower than the leader.

Gresini Racing Team rider Enea Bastianini, unfortunately, crashed out whilst overtaking Ono during the second session. He was luckily unhurt however his technicians were left with a great deal of work to do to prepare for the final day of testing.

The Moto3 riders have just one more day of testing in Qatar ahead of the season opener on March 20th. They will have three more hour long sessions to setup the bike as well as possible ready for the race under the floodlit track.
