Di Grassi disqualication hands Mexico win to D’Ambrosio

Lucas di Grassi has been stripped of his win at the inaugural Mexican Grand Prix after his car was found to be under the weight limit, with the win being given to Jerome D’Ambrosio.

The ABT Schaeffler car used in the first half of the race was found to be 1.8kg under the 888kg weight limit, which meant the Brazilian was disqualified from the race. The team will not appeal the decision.

It is the second time that di Grassi has been disqualified after winning a race, the driver had an infringement with his front wing during the Berlin ePrix last season.

Eventual race winner D’Ambrosio wasn’t immune from penalties either, with the fastest lap of the race taken away from him for cutting the chicane. This was given to Nico Prost, who also had a drive through penalty during the race for an unsafe pit release.

The Frenchman was elevated to third, behind fellow Renault e.dams driver Sebastien Buemi who stays in the championship lead after di Grassi’s exclusion.

Loic Duval remained in fourth place after receiving a 15 second penalty for continually cutting the chicanes, while Robin Frijns was elevated to fifth for Andretti, Sam Bird sixth, and Daniel Abt after crashing on the final lap will move up to seventh.

Nick Heidfeld in the Mahindra moves up to eighth in his fourth race of the season, Stephane Sarrazin is placed ninth, and finally Bruno Senna rounds up the top ten.
